“What’s that noise?” Sirius asked Marlene coming inside the living room.
“I don’t know” she said pointing at the phone “is coming from that”
“Marls can you answer, please? I’m busy” they both heard Lily shouting from upstairs.
They were all going out in the muggle world that night; Emmeline,- who had been there before, was gone to pick up James, Remus and Peter, while Marlene and Sirius stayed with Lily, who was now getting ready.
“No problem!” Marlene shouted back and then looked at him “I have no idea how to do that”
“You have to take this part and say ‘Wayne’s manor, please hold’ and that’s it”
“Wayne’s manor?” she whispered picking up the phone and staring at it.
“Is what muggles said when they answer that thing on someone else’s house, it’s like etiquette or something, so they know is not the owner answering, don’t you remember from muggle studies? Hurry, is not polite to keep them waiting!”
“Okay, okay” she said moving the phone to her ear, and using her best serious voice said “Wayne’s manor, please hold”
There was a pause “What? Lily?” a female voice came from the other side.
“… Wayne’s manor, please hold!” Marlene repeated not knowing what else to do, thinking maybe she hasn’t heard her.
“Marls?” the woman spoke again “Marls is that you?”
“Emmeline?”
“Yes! Did you say Wayne’s manor?” Marlene could hear Sirius trying to hide his -laugh behind her.
“You tricked me!” she shouted turning to face him.
“I did not! That’s what they say on Batman when the butler answer the phone at Batman’s house”
“That’s a muggle tv show, moron!” She shouted again hitting his arm.
Sirius laughed harder “It was just a joke, relax. At least it was Emmeline… What did she wanted, by the way?”
“What do you mean?”
“Why did she called?”
“Why would I know?”
“Because you talked to her and hung up”
“I did what?”

It was a well known fact among the girls that Sirius Black did not date a girl more than once. He didn’t like to repeat them.

Of course, this was actually a lie. Sirius never said such thing, but at some point the girls decided this was a rule of his, and he just kinda went with it.
It wasn’t completely untrue anyway, he did have this tendency of not dating a girl he already had dated before. Besides, there were so many girls in Hogwarts, he couldn’t just stay all the time with one. It’s like asking for the same ice cream flavor all summer. So boring.

Except for that coffee with rum ice cream flavor, that thing’s fantastic.

Besides, girls get too attached. Girls always want something serious in the end so by dating them once, for no more than a week, he could avoid all the relationship issues and drama.

Of course there were always those girls that just want to have fun, almost like a friend you shag, well… sometimes even like a stranger you shag. Girls he could go back to and didn’t have to worry about feelings, because they both knew there was nothing there.
And then, there was Marlene McKinnon.

Just like coffee rum ice cream. Opposite to all the others.
